Loved this book. At first I thought this was going to be a light read, but it wasn't. It dealt with some serious issues and handled them in a very gripping way. I highly reccomend.
Annie is another delightful character to spring from the pen of the talented Ms Rikand. No matter how I tried to slow myself down to prolong the pleasure of staying in her richly-painted world of pond-jumping corporate types, it was all over way too soon.

Ms Rikand's ability to portray well-rounded, likeable character is second to none and she places them in the perfect settings to play out their compelling dramas - the sort that have you staying up way later than you should just to find out what happens next. I used to think I knew a thing or two about business, but her comfortable expertise in the arena of suits and egos left me feeling like Vivian in Pretty Woman trying to understand the complexities of cut-and-thrust business deals.

This author is cleverer than many at teasing us with well-disguised nuggets of important information - her signposting is so subtle that few will be expecting the twists when they come. If you are a music fan, you're in for an extra treat.

Btw, if you haven't already had the pleasure and want to spend more time in Ms Rikand's company, I can thoroughly recommend Girl The Reaper Death can sometimes be a beginning, instead of just an end. You lucky person you!
Annie of London is a sophisticated new adult novel from an author who is obviously well-acquainted with corporate America, its memes and ironies. Annie Smithton is an intelligent, well-educated young woman on the verge of a promising financial career. As I savored the lush writing, I couldn’t help but be reminded of another novel, a beloved classic. I have since confirmed the parallel with the author and found that Annie of London is, indeed, a modern retelling of “Pride and Prejudice”. (Yes, please.)
From that perspective, there are so many opportunities for it to be great, and the author takes advantage of every one of them. Gentlemen abound—even the alcoholic character is more self-destructive and dysfunctional than violent. There’s more passion than sex, thanks to all the sexual tension thrown in. And—while the failures in communication that put the characters at risk of being completely undone by their pride have been updated to reflect the modern-day setting—it’s almost frightening how little difference these technological advances actually make in the vast scheme of things. It doesn’t matter that Annie blogs while Elizabeth Bennett bundles off hand-written correspondence. They’re both still highly affected by the perceptions of society.
Which is why you’ll enjoy the story even if you aren’t a big Jane Austen fan. The parallels are as subtle as shadow puppets on a cave wall; make of them what you will. And, of course, Annie’s journey centers less around who she’ll end up with and more on her desire to strike a balance between career and love. Certainly, a relatable theme for this day and age.
If you’re looking for a smart, layered romance that bucks the formula of professional-woman-in-a-male-dominated field, you won’t be disappointed with Annie of London.
