There is however wonderful characters, witches all, who share their discovery, their love, their happiness, their amazement with life and magic, their joy, and their tears of happiness. This is a wonderful book. I love the people that populate it. I want to pick up the phone and call them. I want to log onto their magic seeking website and be discovered to be one with them. I want to be a part of their next circle. Even if just to be there with them around me and watch the magic.

Please note that I previously purchased a number of books from this series via Audible.com so the story line is well-known to me. More about this at the end of my review.

The /paper version of the book deserves 5 stars because it contains everything I most enjoy in a book. It is a well written and fun-filled story. It may be the happiest urban fantasy book series I've read to date. The story centers around a California family of witches that is searching for other witches via the internet. The main characters range in age from 4 to well over 70. All are very likeable with unique personalities. Remember that the characters are witches with magical abilities, so if you enjoy a little fantasy along with a fun story, you will be in heaven!

I loved the fact that the author was able to write for all the age groups using the proper perspective for each person. The children are endearing with their innocent view of the world. Yet, they keep their parents on their toes as they develop new magical skills which cause all kinds of problems for their parents. The mature characters may have some of the physical limitations of the elderly, but they also are vital people with a humor that older folks develop through maturity and life experience. I hope I grow old with the same zest for life and living that they have!

This series will not appeal to everyone. If you do not enjoy stories that are family-centered with lots of space given to the children, you may not enjoy this series. If you enjoy witch stories with evil wicked people, this certainly won't be your cup of tea. It is a book that is more about a loving family who respects and supports each other in all areas of life, love and giving. The family takes their civic responsibilities seriously, but they allow a large dose of immature "play time" to lighten their loads and recharge their batteries.

If you enjoy laughing...good wholesome family living...fantastical physical abilities from the youngest to the oldest characters, I think this series will be for you.

Now, back to the Audible version of the books...if you enjoy listening to good stories, the narrator for this series is excellent. She manages to make baby talk, accents, and emotions sound real. I highly recommend both versions of the books in this series.

I loved, loved, loved this book for so many reasons! The story is great and filled with awesome characters. All of them have their own little storyline and it is a delight to dive into their life, into their thoughts to see how they handle magic. "A modern witch" is funny, full of love and is a really good example for those who are empath or who are living with an empath. It is a fiction story, so there is a lot of things that are described and are not really like that, but the way Debora Geary described how it feels to actually FEEL other's energy, other's mood, like it is an invasion of the mind, draining you until you are able to build your own barrier is perfect to give any non-empath a pretty good idea of how we feel. I was more then pleased with this book and can't wait to start the second one!
A Modern Witch by Debora Geary is well worth your time to read. The author has created a world of wonderful characters who become more lovable and believable with each page. You are invited into this world and soon find yourself turning the pages to find out what mischief and adventure awaits our heroine, Lauren, as she comes to the realization that she does in fact possess powers of which she had been totally unaware. Sudden catapulting into the witching world brings its own stresses as she meets others like herself who are more aware. How will this affect her life as a realtor? Will she have to lose one friend of a lifetime in order to harness the benefits of her power? Read A Modern Witch to find out. You'll be glad you did.
I loved this series of books. My only complaint is that the author finally decided to end the series (after SEVERAL of them). All of these books are based on the lives of a very extended family of modern witches. I love urban fantasy, but I was becoming tired of all the drama and tension that seems to be so prevalent in many books of this genre. This series, however, really stresses the love this family have for each other and those they encounter. The humanity of the characters is very refreshing.

Having said that, the plots are quite interesting, and the writing is very well done. My interest was piqued throughout the story lines. I highly recommend all (ALL) of these books.
